You need to be:

·picking up, answering and, if requested, putting through callers on the telephone in line with arrangements made previously, including taking notes;
·carrying out some purchasing assignments;
·picking up and taking away the mail;
·copying material used in the lessons;
·giving direction to cleaning staff;
·assisting at information evenings and the like;
·recording absences;
·intervening in conflict situations between students in line with arrangements agreed in advance;
·supplying educational materials for a replacement teacher;
·running the canteen, the supplies of consumables and doing the purchasing;
·where appropriate, supervising the activities of the remaining catering staff;
·looking after all keys, codes and the like;
·accompanying third parties during intermediary inspections of the premises and/ or materials;
·notifying the administrative assistant of defects and interruptions;
·providing help in emergencies (first aid, acting as the school’s emergency official).
You need to have:
·a commitment to the school’s mission to provide community-based international learning
·an understanding and knowledge of different cultural backgrounds
·excellent communication skills and ability to function well within a team
·an understanding and knowledge of:
• safety precautions applicable to buildings and installations;
• dealing with instructions on how to use machinery and installations
• canteen operations;
• how a telephone switchboard works;
• the organisation of an educational institution;
• dealing with students and responding to disturbances;
• carrying out routine inspections.

The AICS is the first Dutch International Primary and Secondary School in Amsterdam. We are affiliated with the Berlage Lyceum and the Europaschool in Amsterdam, which, together with a number of other schools, form the ‘Esprit Scholengroep Amsterdam’. The AICS is a school for international education, focusing on children from international backgrounds.
