Job description:

Title: Amnesty International are looking for a Director of Language Resource Centre
Salary: c.?53,000
Location: Ville de Paris - Ile de France, France
Languages: English, French, Spanish
Posted: 19th Oct 2009

We believe human right abuses anywhere concern people everywhere. That?s why we campaign passionately for justice, dignity and freedom worldwide. By centralising the management of our existing language resources in one strategic hub, you?ll make sure our message is consistently powerful, wherever it?s heard.

About the role
Transitioning our current language services system to a new one calls for a new business model. The one you?ll design will be all-embracing, detailing market and user analysis, services, current resources, finances and personnel. You?ll show how you intend to harness a network of external translators, bring together our own in-house team and deliver expert editorial and translation services across everything from press and print to speeches and digital formats. And, at the same time, you?ll make sure this new model is well understood right across our organisation. It?s a highly influential, autonomous role ? and a challenging one. Particularly as we want our new centre to be up and running within 6 to 12 months.

Location: Madrid, Geneva, Paris or Brussels

About you
It?ll be down to you to promote best practice. So, naturally, you?ll need experience of leading a team in a networked, multilingual environment. But it?s just as important that you?ve managed change, introduced efficient workflows and practices and handled a large, complex budget. As a result, you?ll have developed strong business acumen and the ability to analyse, forecast and plan. A NGO background would be welcome but is not essential. But you?ll certainly have the kind of open, inclusive management style that encourages everyone to contribute their own ideas and opinions. What?s more, you?ll be fluent in English and either French or Spanish..

About us
Amnesty International is a worldwide movement of volunteers and professionals standing up for human rights. Independent of any government, ideology, economic interest or religion, we have more than two million supporters in over 150 countries. Our purpose is to research, campaign and take action to effect change and protect individuals wherever justice, fairness, freedom and truth are denied.

Closing date: 16th November 2009.

Amnesty International values diversity and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
